Trinity College Hosts International Symposium-cum-Stall Exhibition on Ethnobotanical Heritage of India

Behind the Scenes

The Department of Sciences, Trinity College Jalandhar, successfully organized a Two-Day International Symposium-cum-Stall Exhibition on “Celebrating the Ethnobotanical Heritage of India” under the theme “Acting Locally for Global Impact.” The event was organized in collaboration with the Punjab Biodiversity Board and sponsored by the National Biodiversity Authority, bringing together experts, academicians, researchers, scholars, and students to explore the significance of ethnobotanical knowledge in sustainable development and biodiversity conservation. The symposium witnessed enthusiastic participation from various institutions and served as a dynamic platform for intellectual exchange and scientific discourse. Coordinated by Dr. Neetu Khanna, the event featured a research paper presentation session coordinated by Dr. Kapil Jairath and chaired by Dr. Monika Devi and Dr. Keshav. Around 25 research papers were presented on diverse interdisciplinary themes including ethnobotany, biodiversity conservation, medicinal plants, healthcare, sustainability, and wellness. A major attraction of the symposium was the series of expert lectures delivered by eminent national and international resource persons. The distinguished speakers shared valuable insights on biodiversity conservation, medicinal plant utilization, sustainable harvesting practices, and the preservation of traditional knowledge systems. Their deliberations enriched participants’ understanding of the critical role of ethnobotanical heritage in addressing contemporary environmental and health challenges. The event also showcased a vibrant Stall Exhibition and Model Display, where nearly 60 students actively participated by presenting innovative projects and models highlighting environmental sustainability and ethnobotanical awareness. Adding further value to the exhibition, the Department of Sciences set up three educational stalls on Vermicomposting, Herbal Sanitizer Preparation, and Eco-friendly Seed Bombs, demonstrating practical and sustainable solutions for environmental conservation and community well-being. The symposium provided a unique opportunity for participants to engage in meaningful discussions, share innovative ideas, and explore the connection between traditional knowledge and modern scientific approaches. It successfully promoted awareness about biodiversity conservation, sustainable living, and the preservation of India's rich ethnobotanical heritage. The event concluded on a highly successful note with active participation, thought-provoking discussions, and valuable learning experiences for all attendees. The symposium reaffirmed Trinity College Jalandhar’s commitment to promoting scientific inquiry, environmental responsibility, and sustainable development while fostering collaborations that contribute to global well-being through local action.
